Write4Kids Group

Mission Statement

To offer support, insight and guidance for those writing for children and young adults through constructive critiques, sharing of creative work and writing exercises in a relaxed, encouraging environment. Our goal is to help our members improve in their craft and have a better understanding of the genre of children’s literature and its audience.

Guidelines

The Write4Kids group is open to active Guild members who are published or aspiring writers of children's fiction and nonfiction. Writers working on picture books for preschoolers, as well as short stories, novels or articles for young readers, middle readers or young adults are welcome.
The group meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month in Jason's Deli on Peter's Road to review members’ work and share information about the genre. Meetings typically last two to three hours.
Members are expected to actively participate in group discussions, as well as submit their own work for critique on a rotating basis.

Generally, two members are critiqued each month. In April and November, all members participate in writing exercises relevant to the genre. No creative works are reviewed during those months.
Submissions are made by email via a private Google Group at least one week before the monthly meeting.

Monthly submissions must not exceed 2,000 words.
Because much of children’s literature is read by an adult to a child, members take turns reading other members’ submissions aloud for the benefit of the writer.
Members also provide written comments to the author of each submitted piece to take home with her for further review after the meeting.

This group is now FULL but Laura Ayo is keeping a waiting list for openings.
