Awards Gala 2005
Jon Manchip White Part of the Knoxville Writers' Guild mission is "to promote writing and creativity in the wider community through education, publication, and sponsorship of writing-related events." Beginning in 2002, we have added another goal: to begin a tradition of honoring local writers whose career achievements deserve the recognition of the wider community that is the Knoxville metropolitan area and our region as a whole. writer and editor Jack Neely will present White the award, considered
the most prestigious honor the Guild will bestow at its 4th annual gala
on April 22. Novelist Julie Auer will emcee. Also presenting
awards will be News-Sentinel columnist Don Williams,
and writers and poets Laura Still, Marybeth Boyanton, Judy Loest,
and Brian Griffin, prize-winning author of Sparkman
In The Sky and Other Stories. The program will also feature
live music by the Rocky Wynder Jazz combo, free buffet, beverages,
set-ups and appearances by celebrated writers. More than $1,5000
in prizes , trophies, and plaques will be given to winners of awards for
fiction, poetry, and essays. Dancing and socializing will follow
