Kristin Robertson began writing poetry in the eighth grade after
her teacher, Mrs. Frazier, asked each student to write a poem for the classroom’s
bulletin board. Since then, Kristin has been writing in Chattanooga, where
she grew up, and in Knoxville, where she finished two degrees at the University
of Tennessee with concentrations in writing poetry. She received a graduate
poetry prize from UT after finishing a book-length manuscript, Regathering,
for her master’s thesis.
Kristin currently works as a lecturer in the English Department at UT.
She teaches creative writing and composition courses, and beginning in the
fall of 2004, she will serve as the Assistant Director of Undergraduate
Studies. Kristin was recently awarded the John C. Hodges Excellence in
Teaching Award.
Kristin’s poems have appeared in Yemassee, Seedhouse, Alternative
Harmonies, and Whiskey Island Magazine. She is the
assistant editor of the Guild’s most recent anthology on journeys, Migrants and Stowaways, which will
be published in October 2004. Kristin was elected to the Guild’s board of
directors in August.
Kristin enjoys gardening, running, and renovating an old house she rents
in north Knoxville with her two cats, Bennie (who joins her in this snapshot)
and Major.
