| SOUTHERN WRITING GROUP
Mission
Statement
To provide support and guidance to dedicated writers of the Southern
Writing genre through a regular forum of detailed, constructive critiques,
sharing of creative work, writing drills and some light reading.
Emily Eileen Carter, the group facilitator, says, “We are a
group of dedicated writers committed to supporting each member in
their creative writing process through the exploration of Southern
mythology, culture and history in writing."
Guidelines
1. The focus of this group will include Southern fiction, memoir,
nonfiction pieces and novels.
2. This group is open to all serious writers with a strong commitment
to improvement and a desire to be published.
3. Our writing group will strive to be honest but constructive in
our critiques with the goal of supporting fellow writers and helping
each member improve.
4. All Southern Writing Group members have to be current dues-paying
members of KWG.
5. We generally will meet once a month and look for a commitment to
regular attendance.
6. Members will submit on a rotating basis and while the schedule
may be flexible to individual needs, we expect that each member will
be submitting regularly. Thus the group will remain small, about 3-8
members.
7. Each reviewer provides written and oral critiques as well as editorial
comments on the hard copy.
8. Admission is by application and invitation. Those interested should
submit a one page essay describing their writing history and interests;
as well as their reasons for wanting to join the group. They should
also submit a two page writing sample.
